✅ Competitive miles earnings, especially for overseas spend
✅ HSBC’s long list of travel partners allow for flexibility in redeeming rewards
✅ Travel perks in the form of 4 free airport lounge visits yearly and complimentary travel insurance
❌ Though competitive, the miles earnings are considerably lower than some specialised travel cards
❌ The annual fee of $196.20 may not offer the best bang for everybody’s buck
❌ You need to spend $25,000 per year to get your annual fee waived from your second year
The HSBC TravelOne card’s annual fee of $196.20 is quite standard for credit cards in the same tier. You must pay your annual fee in the first year of your membership. From your second year, you may apply to have it waived for any given year in which you’ve spent more than $25,000. In doing so, however, you will forfeit the 10,000 bonus miles you get when you pay your annual fee.
New to HSBC? You’ll want to give your hands on the bonus 36,000 miles exclusively for new cardholders. You can do so by paying your annual fee, giving marketing consent and spending $1,000 within the period your account is opened till the end of the following month. Existing HSBC customers can do the same to redeem 24,000 miles.

Unlike category-based rewards cards where you’ll have to watch how you spend, to ensure that you’ll get your points, the HSBC TravelOne card lets you earn rewards on all spending. You get your money’s worth with overseas spending, which lets you net up to 2.4 miles or 6x Rewards points per dollar spent. For local spending, that comes down to 1.2 miles or 3x Reward points per dollar.
The HSBC TravelOne card comes with huge travel perks. Thanks to HSBC’s long list of airline and hotel partners, there’ll always be amazing deals waiting for you no matter when you travel. Then there’s complimentary travel insurance with up to $150,000 in Overseas Medical Expenses coverage, which you can easily redeem by charging the air ticket to your credit card. Last but definitely not least, there’s the 4 complimentary airport lounge visits you get per year, courtesy of Mastercard Travel Pass. You get to choose from over 1,300 lounges all over the world. A quick check online shows you whether they have what you need—whether it’s a hot shower, drinks or a place where you can take a nap.
With the HSBC app, redeeming your airline or hotel points is mostly an instantaneous affair. Enjoy the convenience of spending your points and watching them turn into hotel stays, gift cards and more with just a few finger taps. Book car rentals, flights and hotel stays with your available Reward points via the app’s Travel with Points function. Redeem air miles and hotel stays via the app’s Credit Card Rewards function under the Products and Services tab. Finally, you can offset purchases with the Pay for Points function, also located under the app’s Credit Card Rewards section.

If you’re using your HSBC TravelOne card to collect miles and enhance your travels, you probably won’t be applying for annual fee waivers. After all, if you already spent more than $25,000 in a year, what’s another $196.20? Plus, you’ll be saying goodbye to the 10,000 bonus miles you get by paying your annual fees from your second year.
That’s right, to waive your annual fees, you’ll need to have spent more than $25,000 and no, you can’t have the fees waived and get to keep your 10,000 miles.
Though the miles earnings rate the HSBC TravelOne card provides is competitive, rates offered by more specialised cards could give it a run for its money. One example is the Krisflyer UOB Credit Card, which is on the same credit card tier with an annual fee of $196.20 and is tailored for customers who primarily fly Singapore Airlines. It also gives you up to 3 miles per $1 spend, as long as you spend at least $800 a year on Scoot, Singapore Airlines and KrisShop.
Most people pay their credit card bills religiously to avoid late fees, which is understandable because they can add up very quickly. If you miss a payment on your HSBC TravelOne Credit Card, expect finance charges of an eyewatering 27.8% per annum, chargeable daily. This will apply from the date the transaction is made, until full payment is settled or until your next statement date—whichever comes first.
Outstanding credit card balances incur high interest rates, which is charged daily. This can snowball out of control in devastating ways, leading to massive credit card debt. Visit our guide on managing credit card debt for more information.
Are you a frequent traveller and value seeker? If so, the HSBC TravelOne card may be a perfect fit for you. Take advantage of exclusive deals from HSBC, HSBC’s partners and Mastercard; wind down in style at airport lounges and rack up miles when you spend with this travel card. Don’t forget the complimentary travel insurance you can redeem by charging the air ticket to your card, a great way for travelling with peace of mind.
